NEW DELHI: Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi will begin his four-day official visit to Bangladesh today to further consolidate bilateral defence ties and explore new avenues for maritime cooperation.Admiral Tripathi is scheduled to hold talks with his counterpart Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman and Air Force chief Air Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan during the visit, which comes soon after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in India for a comprehensive dialogue with PM Narendra Modi to boost the overall bilateral relationship.In his first foreign visit after taking charge on April 30, Admiral Tripathi will also review the passing-out parade at the Bangladesh Naval Academy Chittagong on July 4 as well as address the National Defence College in Dhaka and visit a few key defence facilities.Concurrently, Indian guided-missile destroyer INS Ranvir has also reached Chattogram in Bangladesh as part of an operational deployment, and will participate in a maritime partnership exercise with Bangladeshi warships.”Naval cooperation between India and Bangladesh has been traditionally strong, encompassing a wide span including operational interactions, bilateral naval exercises and capacity-building programmes. The visit will further strengthen the strong bonds of friendship between the two navies,” Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.
